Those of us of a certain age will remember the 1997 film “Wag the Dog” starring Dustin Hoffman and Robert DeNiro. This dark comedy was a response to Bill Clinton’s sex scandals at the time and the premise revolved around the idea that a US President would fabricate a war in order to distract the nation from those scandals and to boost his sagging popularity. After that film was released the term “Wagging the dog” entered popular vernacular for any war waged to distract the population.
In fact back in 2013 Trump himself predicted Obama would wag the dog in order to distract the nation.
Let’s get right to the point: there was no real reason to bomb Iran right now. Our own intelligence services were not warning that Iran was close to building a working nuclear bomb until Trump raged at his own Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, who initially disagreed with Trump but immediately changed her tune.
Trump is the master of distraction whenever there’s bad news about him. And the news in the past month has not been good for him whatsoever. From his failed trade wars to the pathetic military parade on his birthday in DC, Trump looks weaker and weaker every day.
So what’s a wannabe strongman to do?
Well, it’s pretty clear that the violence and chaos in Los Angeles resulting in American soldiers in the streets was 100% due to Trump. He sent his ICE goons to terrorize the city which resulted in the inevitable protests and made for TV violence. But once that all died down he needed another distraction so bombing Iran’s nuclear enrichment facilities was the next logical choice.
And let’s not forget the fact that Iran wouldn’t even HAVE nuclear enrichment facilities in the first place were it not for Trump pulling out of the Obama-negotiated Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018, calling it a “terrible deal” that did nothing to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon despite all evidence to the contrary.
The JCPOA, which imposed restrictions on Iran’s civilian nuclear enrichment program in exchange for sanctions relief, was signed on July 14, 2015. It was agreement made with Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council -- China, France, Russia, the UK, and the US -- as well as Germany and the European Union.
The JCPOA was designed to ensure that Iran’s nuclear program would be exclusively peaceful and provided for the lifting of nuclear-related sanctions in order to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
"It blocks every possible pathway Iran could use to build a nuclear bomb while ensuring -- through a comprehensive, intrusive, and unprecedented verification and transparency regime -- that Iran’s nuclear program remains exclusively peaceful moving forward," Obama's White House said at the time.
And by all measures the JCPOA was working very well until Trump came along and blew up the whole deal in a fit of rage and spite at a Black President who had successfully kept Iran contained.
So yesterday, for no reason at all other than the goading of Benjamin Netenyahu, Trump sent B2 bombers to drop massive 30,000 pound bunker buster bombs into the mountains of Iran where they kept their uranium enrichment facilities. Iran, however, knew what was coming and several days ago a large amount of trucks and transport equipment were seen at those facilities evacuating equipment, personnel, and enriched uranium.
Iran has since stated that nothing of value was destroyed, despite Trump and his SecDef Pete Hegseth beating their chests and crowing about their “spectacular military success”.
From The Guardian:
“The enriched uranium reserves had been transferred from the nuclear centres and there are no materials left there that, if targeted, would cause radiation and be harmful to our compatriots,” he said.
Three days before the US attacks, 16 cargo trucks were seen near the Fordow entrance tunnel.
The head of the AEOI, Mohammad Eslami, claimed this month that Iran had another enrichment site “in a secure and invulnerable location” that could house centrifuges.
It is a well known axiom at truth is often the first casualty of war and what the Trump regime is feeding the country right now clearly follows that axiom. The Trump Regime now claims that they are willing to negotiate and end to Iran’s nuclear program and that they are not interested in starting a war despite making threats about widening the war. The Iranian Parliament, on the other hand, has voted to block the Strait of Hormuz where roughly 30% of the world’s oil transits on its way to global markets, mainly in China and the EU.
That means world oil prices may double in the next few days.
Trump ran on being a “peace” President who would not start any new wars while at the same time accusing Kamala Harris of being a war monger that would start World War 3 and get millions of Muslims killed.
Yet again every accusation is an admission of guilt.
Worse still, this war is distracting everyone from the horrors still happening in Gaza everyday! Even Al-Jazeera has stopped covering Gaza.
It seems to me that the only reason satanyahu is even coming for Iran is to distract attention away from this genocide, which they now will have free rein to continue completely unabated. And everyone and every media outlet seems to be taking the bait.
All eyes on Gaza. Ceasefire now!
Not a surprise there, anytime Trump 'claims' to be doing something, to stop and enemy, it is a sure bet that what ever he has accused his opponent of doing, he is doing it at 10 times the rate already.
