I am SO honored and humbled to announce that we have just added our 200th subriber to WokeAF!
I started this Substack blog roughly a year and a half ago as an outlet for my own personal writing that came about from writing diaries and articles on DailyKos and getting good feedback and comments from the readership.
I initially began WokeAF as a result of all the anti-woke nonsense that was coming from the likes of Ron DeSantis and other Republicans who were demonizing trans folks like myself for political gain. I wanted to educate people who were unclear about what it means to be transgender and how their hateful rhetoric was doing lasting harm to our community. And since then the rhetoric has died down a bit but anti-trans legislation is still running rampant in Republican-led states, especially Florida and Texas.
However since then this blog has morphed into becoming more of a sounding board for my own political voice which is obviously very left-leaning and progressive, though I hesitate to call myself a Progressive per se. And this Substack platform became the perfect place to exercise my voice which has grown more and more confident as I become more aware that people actually kind of like hearing what I have to say. It’s been a bit surprising to learn that, I’ll tell you.
But something magical happened a few months ago. As you are no doubt aware I ran into financial difficulties due to a lack of paying clients for my 3D animation work and I reached out to the DailyKos community and WokeAF became a magnet for donations through paid subscriptions. I’m happy to say that things are going much better now and my year is looking much brighter.
So I just want to personally thank each and every one of you who have subscribed to WokeAF in order to digest my ramblings and hopefully you’ve learned a thing or two about the transgender community. I will endeavor to keep writing about what is important to all of us politically as we get closer and closer to the election. After that, who knows, maybe we’ll be reading a lot more about how the Harris/Walz administration is doing great things for the LGBTQ+ community, right?
Fingers and toes crossed, we’re gonna win this thing. This is the weekend when the Presidential election comes into sharper focus and people start paying more attention.
And here’s a new poll that shows Kamala up by SIX POINTS over Trump with likely voters:
Not only that but Harris and Walz lead Trump by THIRTEEN POINTS with women while Trump and Vance lead by 5 points with men. Now that is what we call a gender gap.
Happy Labor Day!
