Joe Biden's SOTU speech was full of fire and fury and one for the ages
Republicans are not taking it well today
Full disclosure, this is actually the first time I’ve watched a State of the Union speech from start to finish. I don’t know why I decided to watch it this year while eschewing the annual display of Congressional mumbo jumbo but I’m glad I did.
President Biden’s entrance into the House Chambers was received with the usual handshaking, backslapping, and selfie taking but this year the odious Marjorie Taylor Greene, in defiance of House rules looking like she just walked out of a Trump rally, unsuccessfully tried to waylay President Biden by shouting “SAY HER NAME!” about white college student in Georgia that Republicans are desperate to use as a campaign issue.
But the look on Biden’s face when he saw her was absolutely priceless. If you didn’t see it you’ll have to watch the video for yourself.
President Biden clearly arrived expecting a fight with hecklers and it’s clear that he relishes the fight. This is a man who has been sitting in Congress since 1974. The same year, by the way, that President Nixon announced his resignation from the Presidency in order to avoid the upcoming impeachment trial for his role in the Watergate scandal. THAT’S how long Joe Biden has been in politics.
President Biden also arrived last night ready to tackle any and all criticisms that he’s too old or too infirm to be President. He put that lie to bed REAL quick, that’s for sure.
And in just over an hour and seven minutes he proceeded to read the Republican Party AND his predecessor (he refused to use his name as though he was Voldemort himself) for FILTH. The look on Mike Johnson’s face for most of the night was absolutely classic. The man has no poker face whatsoever.
And every time a Republican howler monkey interrupted him he had an answer for them. Because he was EXPECTING such interruptions. He deviated from his script and showed that he can clearly think on his feet, and that his razor-sharp wit is still as razor sharp as ever.
So of course Republicans and the so-called “liberal” media are slamming his speech today for being “too political” and an obvious “campaign speech”.
TOO POLITICAL? A CAMPAIGN SPEECH? WTF were they expecting? Milk, cookies, and a round of Kumbaya on the House floor?
Look, these are not normal times and clearly Joe Biden understands this. He CLEARLY spelled out the stakes last night. From reproductive rights to IVF rights to voting rights to LGBTQ+ rights to book bans to trickle-down economics to the fight at the border. Joe Biden had an answer for all our problems: the Republican Party and ESPECIALLY the policies of his predecessor.
And THAT is the state of the Union today: one side trying to fix the problems of this country while the other side keeps throwing sand in the gears and hoping this country fails so they can ride in and save the day. Again.
The media keeps trying to convince this country that Joe Biden is too old to be President and should step down. And last night Joe Biden proved to the nation that nothing could be further from the truth.
Oh, and a special shoutout to transgender Americans from Joe Biden: “I have your back.” Let’s hope he lives up to that pledge.
